PRACTICE UPDATE: NEW PRACTICE DIRECTION OF THE FIRST-TIER TRIBUNAL (IMMIGRATION AND ASYLUM CHAMBER)

Wednesday 4 December 2024 | 12:00 - 13:00

Speakers: Alasdair Mackenzie, Sarah Dobbie and Finnian Clarke

A new Practice Direction of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal came into effect on 1 November 2024. It introduces several new requirements for all appellants and their representatives which will involve significant changes to how appeals are prepared and conducted.

This short lunchtime webinar will examine the key changes implemented in the new Practice Direction — including in relation to Appeal Skeleton Arguments, witness statements, expert reports, and adjournments — and will explore how to address the issues arising in practice, how to turn the new requirements to appellants' advantage, and how to minimise the risk of sanctions from the Tribunal.
