Mr. Bahiss is a senior analyst with International Crisis Group’s Asia Program. He specialises on armed groups, security and governance in Afghanistan, and his work has been published by various international media and research organisations.
Partly based in Afghanistan, I continue to spend substantial time in Afghanistan, visiting both major urban centres as well as remote rural areas for fieldwork. I am able to offer analysis based on synthesis of both primary information gleaned through fieldwork as well as supplemented by my deep understanding and grasp of secondary and tertiary information on developments inside the country. I also have expertise in Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) related expertise too, especially in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
In addition, I am able to authenticate official and unofficial documents.
I have more than 12 years’ experience researching and writing on Afghanistan. I have published over a dozen experts reports for leading international organisations and thinktanks. I am listed as an externally remunerated expert with the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) and called on by foreign ministries, including the British Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), as well as international organisations such as the World Bank.
