Shu Shin Luh of Doughty Street and Connor Johnston of Garden Court co-author new reference work on legal rights and support for migrants
The Legal Action Group (LAG) announced on Friday that its newly published Migrant Support Handbook is now available to purchase.
LAG says the handbook is set to become an essential reference for anyone working in the complex area of legal rights and support for migrants, and it seeks to present the law in an accessible and practical way for quick reference or in-depth advice.
It can be purchased here on LAG's website as either a printed book or an eBook.
The new Migrant Support Handbook was co-authored by Shu Shin Luh of Doughty Street Chambers and Connor Johnston of Garden Court Chambers. It also features expert contributions from Garden Court's Tessa Buchanan, Emma Fitzsimons, Helen Foot, Louise Hooper, Maria Moodie, Ollie Persey, Tom Royston, and Irena Sabic KC, and from Doughty Street's Tony Vaughan.
Sue Willman of Deighton Pierce Glynn (DPG) said the much-needed handbook helps advisers and lawyers to ensure that migrants can access their fundamental rights.
According to LAG, the contents of the chapters include:
• An overview of nationality and immigration law
• EEA free movement law and the EU settlement scheme
• Asylum law and international protection law
• Welfare benefits
• Asylum support
• Support for failed asylum-seekers
• Housing
• Community care services for adults and children
• Healthcare
• Special cases (unaccompanied children, care leavers and victims of trafficking)
LAG is a charity established in 1972 that promotes equal access to justice for all members of society who are socially or economically disadvantaged. It works to build a fair legal system for all.
