The Expert has an extensive amount of experience in the human rights situation as well as the legal consequences of these violations from Bangladesh’s perspective. While working at Odhikar, They have had the chance to indulge themselves in different aspects of human rights.
The Expert played the role of documentation officer at first and then was promoted to documentation manager in a very short time due to putting extra hours into research. They also simultaneously worked in a legal chamber that included advocacy, litigation and documentation in various kinds of legal matters including but not limited to Criminal, Civil, Commercial, family and several other matters. In addition to their professional law degree, they also have a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from the University of Dhaka.
The Expert would say that Politics, Democracy, International Relations, Bureaucracy, International Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, and Particular Social Groups of Bangladesh are the expertise where they feel the most strengthened in terms of research capability.
The Expert has worked with different bodies of the United Nations specially the United Nations Working Group on Enforced Disappearances and representatives or rapporteurs of other international bodies.
The Expert provided expert reports on specific human rights violations that include but are not limited to extra-judicial killing, enforced disappearances, torture, custodial death, rape, acid attacks, political violence, political persecution, riots, freedom of speech, freedom of media, and freedom of assembly. The Expert has dealt with victims of grave human rights violation and their families in regards to legal procedures being carried out and providing psychosocial training.
The Expert participated in the Hague Talks- in 2020 February and was a keynote speaker in many seminars held in the House of Commons alongside members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Their programme in the Netherlands included providing a substantial presentation on the situation of Bangladesh in regard to Human Rights that included presentations to the Human Rights Ambassador, members of the Parliament and law enforcement agencies, the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, which extends to other International human rights organisations Justice and Peace, OHCHR, IMCP, Redress and many more.
The Expert has undergone training in Public Speaking and a Workshop at Free-Press, Interviewing Detainees.
Immigration Law & Policy: Furthermore, The Expert has Post-Qualification Experience practising Immigration Law in the UK including Asylum or Protection Rights, Human Rights Applications and Appeals that include Deportation, Detention, removal and Bail procedures. Their experience in this field has made them proficient in navigating the intricate landscape of immigration laws and policies pertaining to Bangladesh including visa regulations, residency and citizenship eligibilities and requirements. In addition, they have profound and updated knowledge on the Home Office Policy Notes and Country Guidance.
Cross-Border Legal Practice: Extensive experience as a legal professional in England and Wales as well as Bangladesh has made them facilitate seamless legal representation and assistance in cross-border immigration issues.
