The Expert has worked extensively in the fields of Transitional Justice, Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration of Ex-Combatants, Security Sector Reform, Sustainable Livelihoods, Gender and Conflict Resolution in Africa.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies from University of Sierra Leone; another Master’s degree in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam; and a Doctorate degree in Economics from the Leipzig Graduate School of Management in Germany.
He currently lectures at the Peace and Conflict Studies Programme, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and he is also a senior partner at Transition International, a consultancy firm based in the Netherlands.

Dr. Ecke’s work has been shaped by years of research for organizations across Africa, including extensive qualitative studies on complex humanitarian crises in countries such as Liberia, Ghana, and South Sudan, as well as in Yemen and Germany. He has contributed to and evaluated projects funded by the U.S., Canadian, and German governments, as well as by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Through the breadth and depth of these experiences, Dr. Ecke has developed invaluable expertise in assessing the situations of forced migrants, both in their countries of origin (post-return) and in host countries across the Global North, the Middle East, and Africa. His professional background includes conducting extensive applied research in conflict zones in a refugee camp in Ghana, and in Liberia, a post-conflict society. These experiences have given him a profound understanding of the risks faced by displaced populations and have motivated him to publish extensively on conflict dynamics in countries of origin, both in media and academic outlets.
